Residual Value Refund

When a customer requests a voluntary change and the original non-refundable ticketed fare is higher than the new-ticketed fare, unless stated otherwise in the fare rule, the customer is entitled to the residual amount.

·         If a change/penalty fee applies per fare rule, on non-refundable ticket exchanges, it must be deducted from the residual value (difference in fare amount). See the ticket fare rules for fee information.

·         Applies to wholly unused or partially used tickets.

Exchanges from Refundable to non-refundable ticket:

·         If the new fare is lower than the original refundable ticket, the customer is entitled to a refund of the fare difference to the original form of payment.

o    If a fare has a refund penalty, it must be deducted from the amount to be refunded

o   The endorsement box must be marked NONREF. All fare rules and restrictions for the new ticket apply.

U.S. Agencies

When applicable, Travel Agencies may issue residual value MCOs on AA/001 ticket exchanges. This applies for wholly unused or partially used tickets.

U.S. agencies processing through ARC:

·          After the applicable penalty is deducted from the fare difference, a residual MCO is issued for the remaining value. See ticket fare rules for fee information.

·          The residual MCO must be made payable to American Airlines for transportation only.

o   Show "NON-REFUNDABLE, VALID ON AMERICAN AIRLINES ONLY" in the endorsements box.

o   Failure to include this information on the MCO may result in a debit memo

·          Refer to Miscellaneous Charge Order (MCO) for complete details.

International Agencies

When applicable, Travel Agencies may process a BSP Refund Application (RA) for AA/001 ticket exchanges. This applies to wholly unused or partially used tickets.

·          After the applicable penalty is deducted from the fare difference, a refund may be submitted for the remaining value. See ticket fare rules for fee information.

·          A BSP Refund Application (RA) for the remaining residual amount may be requested to American Airlines for a transportation voucher
