Refundable and Non-Refundable Ticket Validity
Wholly unused tickets - Travel must commence within one year from the original ticket issue date
· Example: ticket issued February 1, 2022, travel must commence no later than February 1, 2023
Partially used tickets - Unless otherwise specified in the fare rule, travel must be completed within one year from the outbound travel date
· Any fare difference must be paid and tickets must be reissued when the itinerary is rebooked
Refund information: any action to refund the ticket using fare rules or exception policies must take place as follows:
· Wholly unused tickets: within one year of the original ticket issue date
o Example: Qualifying tickets issued February 1, 2022 may be refunded no later than February 1, 2023
· Partially used tickets: within one year from the outbound travel date
Note: The one year expiration is calculated based on the initial issued ticket, and any subsequent exchanges must adhere to date of the very first ticket purchased.
Ticket Validity and Refund Requests
Refundable Tickets
Customers who have purchased refundable fare tickets on American may receive a refund on:
· Wholly unused refundable fares, or receive a full refund minus the applicable cancellation penalty associated to the refundable fare.
o Refunds on wholly unused tickets are valid up to the validity of the ticket which is one year from the issuance date.
§ Example: ticket issued February 1, 2022 may be refunded no later than February 1, 2023
· Partially used tickets, the refund will be the value of the unused refundable coupons, within one year from the outbound subject to fare rules and penalties. must be completed within one year from the outbound travel date
o Refunds on partially used tickets are valid up to one year from the outbound travel date.
Note: The ticketed flight reservation should be canceled prior to the ticketed departure time to avoid spoilage of the flight segment
Voluntary Changes:
The ticket will be valid as follows:
· Wholly unused tickets - Travel must commence within one year from the original ticket issue date
Example: Ticket issued on February 1, 2022 - New ticket travel must commence no later than February 1, 2023.
· Partially used tickets - Unless otherwise specified in the fare rule, travel must be completed within one year from the outbound travel date
Any fare difference must be paid and tickets must be reissued when the itinerary is rebooked.
