Automatic Refund                                                       Comparable Seats

Customer Initiated Refund                                          Non-Comparable Seats

Ineligible for Refund

Paid seats are non-refundable and non-transferable, even if the ticket is fully refundable.

There are specific scenarios where customers qualify for a refund of a paid seat.

Eligible seat refunds are usually processed automatically when the seat or flight is changed. In some cases, the customer must request the refund manually.

If the customer does not receive the refund within two to four weeks after an automatic or manual request, check the status at aa.com/refunds. If the refund shows as processed, the customer should contact their credit card company to confirm when the funds will be posted.

If the seat was purchased with miles or seat coupons and the refund was not automatically processed within 48 hours after the flight, the agency should contact Reservations for assistance.

If a paid Preferred seat coupon was used and the customer changes to a Main Cabin Extra seat, the customer must use the appropriate coupon or pay for the new seat.
