American Airlines is enhancing our Instant Upsell (IU) product which will allow agencies to maintain control of their customer’s tickets.  

Once ticketed, your customer may receive an offer to upgrade all or part of their itinerary by viewing their reservation on aa.com or the mobile app, based on availability. This self-servicing enhancement offers customers the flexibility to purchase upgrades to a higher cabin for an additional charge. Additional forms of payment may be used to purchase the upgrade.

Effective November 18, 2022, we will begin offering customers this enhanced Instant Upsell and issuing Electronic Miscellaneous Documents (EMDs) for these transactions. This allows you to maintain control of the customer’s tickets and continue to service the customer on their itinerary needs, including exchanging tickets when there is a schedule change. Qualifications for Instant Upsell include:

·         Valid for U.S. Point-of-Sale (domestic and international destinations)

·         Valid on AA prime flights (American Airlines and American Eagle operated)

·         Any and/or all flight segments may be upgraded separately and are based on cabin availability

·         American will issue EMDs based on the Instant Upsell segment selection and will associate the Instant Upsell coupon with the corresponding flight segments

·         SSRs will be added to the reservation to advise the agency of the Instant Upsell offer purchased, and that the agency retains control of the ticket: 

o   OTHS AGENCY RETAINS CONTROL OF TKT FOR REISSUES 

o   OTHS INSTANT UPSELL ANCILLARY EMD ISSUED 001xxxxxxxxxx 

·         Purchased Instant Upsell offers are booked in F, J, or W inventories and are based on the cabin upgraded

·         In the event of a Schedule Change or Schedule Irregularity, our automated systems will re-accommodate the customer in the upgraded cabin, when available

o   Reservations that receive a schedule change will need to follow our updated Schedule Change procedures which requires the waiver code SKCHG/IU in the Endorsement Box of the new ticket

·         Not valid on Basic Economy fares
